Fiera and 100 years of Alfa Romeo
A large monument in golden bronze weighing two tonnes, conceived by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo and rendered with the touch of the artist Agostino Bonalumi, and presented by RIAR (Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo) will welcome from the 26th June the 5 million plus visitors which come each year to Fiera Milano.
A worthy tribute for the centenary of Alfa Romeo: a celebration of design and speed, represented by a timeless automobile with sinuous curves, captured leaping upwards in a flying start and framed by two stylised obelisks which serve to accentuate the idea of movement.
The inauguration of Bonalumis sculpture will be just one of the scheduled events to celebrate Alfas 100 years. From the 24th 27th June many events are scheduled which will involve both the city and the Fiera Milano district in Rho, used as head quarters.
Fiera Milano will receive in fact over 3000 historical Alfa Romeo cars, from all over the world and from there the cars will leave destined for Milans main city-centre squares (Piazza San Babila, Piazza della Scala, Piazza Cairoli, Corso Como and Bastioni di Porta Venezia), transforming them into an open air museum.
On Saturday 26th at 8 pm in Piazza Castello, 100 cars, those most representative of the Company of the Biscione (Alfa Romeos logo portrays a flower-eating snake - a biscione) will be presented, and a fireworks display will round off the evening at 11 pm.
Special opening times of the Alfa Museum in Arese are scheduled, with guided tours and the opening of the speedway track at Monza with open events just for Alfisti (anyone passionate about Alfa cars).
A photographic exhibition will be inaugurated (at Spazio Cultura lem 1), Fiera Milano, on the subjects of both the cars and the history of Alfa Romeo and a stamp collection display dedicated to the automobile world.
Alfa Romeo and Fiera Milano have much in common declared Michele Perini, President of Fiera Milano Spa. Alfa Romeo is synonymous with the industrial history of Milan, and proof to the world of Italian excellence in creativity and technology. Fiera Milano which shares a birthday with Alfa - has welcomed and promotes with efficiency the best the economy has to offer.
In the 1920s, the then trade fair was the site of innovation and technological progress, which adventurous entrepreneurs hastened to incorporate into their production processes. In a journey to some extent similar to that of Alfa, the halls of Fiera Milano have borne witness to the growth of Italy from the dawn of industrialisation and mass consumption to todays post-industrial reality. For this reason we are honoured to receive this important event here in our district, and to be able to give a permanent site, which we believe to be appropriate, for the monument for the Alfa Romeos centenary".
